Armillary spheres were used for centuries as celestial globes, with rings corresponding to the meridians and parallels on a modern globe. This unit has a brass arrow threading through the main ring. A secondary band helps hold the arrow in place, and features Roman numerals on the interior. A lion's head adorns each end of this band, for a stately touch. Point the arrow celestial north in a sunny location, and it will act as a gnomon, casting a shadow over the numerals and indicating the time. A third band connects to the bottom of the main ring, for another dimension to this unit. The polished brass finish lends a hint of luxury to the armillary, and the stepped base adds dimension.
