Installation

Replacement Canopy Installation Instructions

Safety First: WARNING!!! This process requires a person to use a ladder to reach the top of the gazebo. It is important that the ladder that you use be stable and safe. It is important that a second person be present in the event you need help. Safety should be your number one priority to prevent falling during installation. If you do not feel comfortable removing or installing the canopy, please seek a professional for help.

Remove Your Old Canopy First

1. Ladder - You will need a stable ladder that will allow you to safely reach the top of the gazebo.

2. Loosen Bottom Tier Canopy – Unfasten all Velcro straps. Velcro straps are usually located on the seams of the canopy. Depending on the model of this gazebo, you will also have to remove the hooks on each corner of the canopy from the frame. Removing the hook is as simple as unlatching it from the frame. (Hint: the hooks should be attached to a thick elastic band). Next, remove the corner finial ornaments. To do this, simply unscrew the finial. Pull the canopy fabric away from the corner, and then towards the center of the gazebo roof. Repeat this for all four corners of the bottom tier canopy. With the bottom tier canopy loosened, push the fabric of the bottom tier towards the center of the roof, and let the canopy sit there on the frame for now. Now it’s time to remove the top tier canopy.

3. Remove the Top Tier Canopy – Start by removing the roof bars from the corner pockets. Do this by pulling the corner pockets away from the center of the gazebo. Repeat this for all four corners. Next, remove the ends of the roof bars from the two side pockets. The side pockets are located midway between the two corner pocket on the long side. By now, the side pockets should easily pull away from the metal roof bars. You should now be able to completely remove the top tier canopy from your gazebo.

4. Remove the Bottom Tier Canopy – Remove the bottom tier canopy from the gazebo by looping the center rectangular hole through the top tier frame. The top tier frame has four corner prongs, each pointing towards one corner of the gazebo. This process will require you to loop the center hole of the bottom canopy through one prong at a time. The first prong is always the most difficult. The process gets easier with each prong of the top tier. If the center hole of the canopy is too tight to fit through the prongs, you may need to temporarily loosen the prongs of the top tier from the hub. Once done, you can completely remove the canopy from the gazebo.

Installing New Canopy

1. Ladder - You will need a stable ladder that will allow you to safely reach the top of the gazebo.

2. Partially Install Bottom Tier Canopy – The bottom tier canopy should be installed first. Do this by looping the center rectangular hole of the bottom canopy through the top tier frame. The top tier frame has four corner prongs. Loop the center hole of the bottom canopy through each prong, one prong at a time. Do this for all four prongs. If you loosened the top tier roof bars during removal of the old canopy, here is when you want to tighten the top tier roof bars in place. Doing this will allow you to install the top tier later. Once this is done, let the bottom tier canopy rest on the roof structure. This canopy is rectangular in shape. Make sure that the correct sides of the canopy line up with the edge of the gazebo. Do not fully install the bottom tier canopy yet, you will still need access to the top of the gazebo to install the top tier.

3. Install the Top Tier Canopy – Rest the top tier canopy on the top tier frame. The top tier canopy is rectangular in shape. Make sure that the correct sides of the canopy line up with the edge of the frame. Pull each corner of the top tier towards the end of the prongs. Insert ends of prongs into the corner pockets one prong at a time. You will need to pull a little harder on the last corner pocket to complete the installation. Next insert the side roof bars into the side pockets. The side pockets are located midway between the corner pockets on the long sides.

4. Fully Install Bottom Tier Canopy - Begin by pulling the corners of the canopy towards the corners of the gazebo frame. The canopy is rectangular in shape. Make sure that the correct sides of the canopy line up with the edge of the frame. Fasten the bottom tier tightly to the frame by placing the corners of the canopy over the corners of the gazebo frame. You will need to make sure the bolt that supports the corner finial also fits through the pre-installed grommet rings on the canopy. Do this for all four corners. You will need to pull harder on the last corner pocket, as there is less slack available. On the underside of each corner of the canopy, you will find a hook with an elastic band. Attach the hook to the hole on the post to securely fasten the canopy to the frame. Now, screw the corner finials into place. Finally, fasten available Velcro straps to the roof bars.

5. You’re finished! Enjoy your new canopy!!!

Every year we order two new tops for our gazebos from Garden Winds. The tops fit like a glove and are of good quality. We live in the mountains of North Carolina and have a westerly exposure so our tops get eaten up by the sun. The tops go up around April each year and get taken down at the end of November before we get our first big snow. We did not take then down one year and lost our gazebo frames because they are not weighted for snow. Lesson learned. But the sun eats up our tops so this year we ordered the heavier 600 denier tops to see if we could get two years out of them instead of just one year. The 360 denier is a heavy material also, but the sun eats it up as well. So this year, we will see if the 600 denier lasts for at least two seasons. We have sprayed them with protective products in the past but nothing can save them from our sun exposure here.

What a surprise to find the 600 denier material so heavy! It is definitely an upgrade that I would afford every year even if it does not hold up to the sun as hope it will. I'm even thinking it will be more waterproof because these canopies are not waterproof. They stop some of the rain, but not all of it. The wind top (as we call it) does not fit tightly so the rain comes in through that opening all the time. Wish they would designed it like the original because we did not have this problem with the original.
We have not put up the tops yet, they go up in April, and it is still March, but I am anxious to see how they do in the rain this year because the material is so heavy.

I must say that the customer service at Garden Winds is great. I hope they never go out of business because there is not another company that makes all these tops that fit exactly what we need. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone that asks my opinion. The 600 denier is worth the extra $100 we paid for it. Sorry, it does not come in the two-tone like the original did, but they are still very nice looking gazebos. Here's a picture of our gazebos with the 360 denier from last year. We take the curtains down each year as well so no need to reorder them, they last just fine.

The service was exceptional from California to Nebraska in 3 days. I bought the heavy duty fabric and I am not disappointed. The fabric is durable and I had both 10' X 12' canopies installed in one hour. I will highly recommend Garden Winds to family members and friends.
