Flame Stop I-DS is a post-treatment pyrolytic interior/exterior fire retardant penetrant. This product comes in the form of a clear liquid, with the consistency very similar to water. This product dries clear. This product is highly concentrated and has significant wetting properties. Flame Stop I-DS was designed to penetrate and effectively fire retard open and closed cell structures. When I-DS treated thatch is subjected to an open flame, the retardant will pyrolitically self-extinguish fire with minimum smoke. Flame Stop I-DS is completely non-toxic and non-hazardous to the environment. Most important of all, this fire retardant is simple to apply! Adding 1 of this product to cart means you will be receiving 1 gallon of Flame Stop I-DS. Amount needed. One gallon of Flame Stop I-DS can treat 3-4 panels of 4' x 5' thatch. Applicable Standards. Flame Stop I-DS has been tested to the following standards: ASTM E-84, NFPA 255, UL 723: US Testing Title 4 #LA63494 (Ether Foam), Omega Point Laboratories #8924-89133 (Reed Thatching) FAR 25.853 (Polyurethane Foam) CA Reg. #C-14401 NFPA 701. Application Instructions: All thatch should be cleaned with water and freed from dirt and debris. Immerse thatch completely in Flame Stop I-DS for 15 minutes. Do not dilute or mix anything into the Flame Stop I-DS solution. To be effective, the thatch must be immersed and bathed in Flame Stop I-DS for 15 minutes. If you do not have the facilities or equipment to completely immerse the thatch into Flame Stop I-DS, you can use a spray bottle applicator. Important note regarding spray bottle application: Immersing thatching in Flame Stop I-DS is the most effective way to treat thatch, if you must use a spray bottle applicator, it is extremely important that you thoroughly spray every part of the thatch, including the underside, creases, crevices, folds, and seams. Allowing any part of the thatch to go untreated using the spray method will result in complete ineffectiveness of the fire retardant. Drying: Let dry and condition for 48 hours before installation. Test: A test should be performed prior to usage and installation into structure. Use a 4" x 12" piece of thatch that has been treated with Flame Stop I-DS. Hold thatch vertically. Apply flame using a butane lighter from the bottom portion for 10 seconds, then remove ignition source. The flame must extinguish within 2 seconds. (This test is similar to the small-scale NFPA 701 field test). If this test fails, repeat application instructions, making sure the thatch is completely immersed and bathed in Flame Stop I-DS. Life and Longevity: For exterior use, reapply every 2 years. For interior use, reapply every 5 years.
